Spongebob History

Getting you ready for the Quiz

SpongeBob is a Nickelodeon animated cartoon tv series produced by sea life science teacher and illustrator Stephen Hillenburg. They should do an animated book series of this show as well we think. A Bit off-topic – ever seen splinter? The show follows Spongebob and his aquatic companions through their travels and exploits in the fictitious underwater city of Bikini Bottom. Its success has turned it into a television franchise, as it is the fifth-longest-running American cartoon. Its also the top-rated Nickelodeon series, as well as the most broadcast property from ViacomCBS Networks International. Nickelodeon has made more than $13 billion in merchandise sales from the television franchise.

Spongebob Setting

The majority of the story is set in the Pacific Ocean underneath the actual coral reef recognized as Bikini Atoll, in the fictitious benthic underwater community of Bikini Bottom. Sounds like it’s near the Pirates of the Caribbean islands.  Its inhabitants are mainly brightly colored fish that dwell in homes built of ship pipes and travel in “boatmobiles,” which are hybrids of vehicles and boats on wheels. No ninja turtles here. Sound like the stuff Rick and Morty would create. Or Pickle rick as he likes to be called.

Episode structure

krusty krab dance

A typical Spongebob episode contains two 12-minute mini-episodes where Spongebob and the rest of the bunch get themselves into a problem that is quickly resolved but sometimes also not resolved. Since the show is not based on consistency, the ending of one show and the start of the next are always distorted.

In one episode, the Flying Dutchman is about to make a tasty frappuccino out of Spongebob, Patrick, and Squidward.  Then in the next episode, they are all fine. This can be confusing but also adds to the show’s funny nature. Key facts to remember if you want to ace our Spongebob Quiz

Spongebob Backstory?

Offtopic – love Pirates? While there is no intricate backstory to justify the presence of our favorite talking sponge, the real-life background of Spongebob Squarepants is worth investigating due to its incredible lifespan.

The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, an animation film version of the show was released on November 19, 2004, it was produced by Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies. Stephen  Hillenburg directed the film, which was co-written by Derek Drymon, Tim Hill, Kent Osborne, Aaron Springer, Paul Tibbitt, and Hillenburg. Check out our other film quizzes

Stephen Hillenburg and Julia Pistor co-produced the film, which was scored by Gregor Narholz. Plankton’s evil plot to snatch King Neptune’s crown and take it to Shell City is depicted in the film. SpongeBob and Patrick must recover it and rescue Mr. Krabs from Neptune’s raft, as well as their house, Bikini Bottom, from Plankton’s scheme. Offtopic – ever heard of naruto?
